Pros and Cons of Using Electric or Gas Cement Mixers
By Greg Vanden Berge

It seems like professionals who deal with concrete or masonry on a daily basis, use gas powered cement mixers. They are often more powerful and can be positioned in the areas that might not have electricity near them.

I personally prefer electric cement mixers, because they are easier to maintain, quieter and every project that I've worked on, is near an electrical outlet. Here are a couple of advantages and disadvantages to using each type of cement mixer.

Advantages to Using an Electric Cement Mixer

• You can't turn it on or off at any time during the day.
• There are much quieter than gas cement mixers.
• You don't need to carry around a bunch of gas cans.
• Lighter and easier to maneuver.
• They can be used inside of the building that isn’t well ventilated.

Disadvantages to Using an Electric Cement Mixer

• The electric extension cords usually limit the placement near electrical outlets.
• They usually don't have as much horsepower as a gas powered mixer.
