Using Nylon String To Verify Locations

Using nylon string to verify locations of walls for plumbing, electrical, heating and air-conditioning and even structural framing components, is how the professionals do it.

The string can be strung out and pulled tight like the picture above and then any plumbing or electrical pipes that will be coming out from underneath the floor, can be positioned in just the right location to avoid framing problems like, pipes sticking out of the walls.

Professional home foundation builders use nylon string for straightening long foundation walls and footings. I never leave home without it.

In the picture above, you can see how the plumber used nylon string to correctly positioned the water and waste pipes for the plumbing. This allowed the plumbers to install their pipes before the floor was sheeted with plywood.

The plumbers job would have been more difficult, if they waited until the house was framed to install their plumbing. Could you imagine how hard it would be to crawl underneath the house with all of your tools and pipes, to install the plumbing, after the flooring had been installed.
