You can also use nylon string to check for variations in
your floor joist framing. Fasten the string at one end of the subfloor
and pull it tight and fasten it at the other end of the subfloor, as
shown in the picture above.
The arrow is pointing to a small gap between the string and the floor
joist and this could create problems in your house framing. Uneven
floors, create uneven walls and uneven walls create problems for drywall
and wood finishes.
Gaps like these can also produce squeaks in your floor as nails loosen
up over the years.
