One of the biggest problems with concrete foundations is
that it's only a one shot deal. Once the concrete is dry and something
needs to be moved or adjusted, this could be create a big problem when
you go to install your door and you find out that the opening isn't
located in the right spot.
Whenever you're laying out a small garage door in the building
foundation, make sure that you allow enough room for the door jams. You
don't want to allow too much room, otherwise you're going to have to
fill in the area between the garage door jam and the concrete
foundation.
As a general rule of thumb, and this might not work every time. You can
add 2 inches to the original door size to create the correct size
opening in your foundation and this should leave you enough room to
install your door, later.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about, you have a 32 inch door
that you're going to be installing in your garage. To figure out how
wide the foundation opening is going to be (this is the distance that
the arrows are pointing to in the picture above) add 2 inches to your
door size and that should leave you a 34 inch opening.
If you don't know your exact door size, it's always going to be easier
to make the opening a little bigger than it would be to make it a little
smaller. It's much harder to chip away concrete than it is to fill it
in.
