| Five Ways to Protect Your Building
Foundation from Water |

One of the biggest problems with your homes building foundation is going
to be water. Water erodes soil from underneath your footings, causes
clay soil to expand and contract and when temperatures reach below
freezing, it can expand and crack the concrete.
Here's five ways to protect your building foundation from water, by
installing a 3 to 5 foot moisture resistant perimeter around your entire
house.
1. Create a decorative rock planter around your house. Remove any
plants, grass or other debris so that you can lay down some type of
thick plastic on top of the soil. After you have positioned the plastic
where you want it, it's time to cover this area with decorative rock.
This often creates a low maintenance area and helps to protect your
building foundation.
2. Build a concrete sidewalk around the perimeter of your house.
3. Install rain gutters with extended downspouts. This will prevent most
of the water that lands on your roof, from pooling up around the
perimeter of your home and then soaking into the soil, working its way
down to the foundation. |

4. Use drought resistant plants with a drip system.
You can use this type of landscaping with a decorative rock planter or
by itself. By using drought resistant plants and a drip irrigation
watering system, you can eliminate large amounts of water from soaking
into the soil.
5. Install a water drainage system. You could always install underground
pipes with water drains positioned around the perimeter of your
buildings foundation to eliminate water from pooling up and soaking into
the soil.
If you're serious about protecting your buildings foundation, you could
use a few of the items listed above to create something wonderful. |
